Moderate Southern California Earthquake causes Latte spillage.
| Yesterday, at around 11:30 am, a moderate 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Southern California spilling thousands of 5 dollar latte's from Los Angeles to San Diego, ruining the morning for many hard working hipsters. Many Starbucks and other douchebag zombie attracting overpriced coffee shops took several hours to restore service making the day even harder to get through. We interviewed some hipsters after the quake, one said " My Daddy is going to sue the ground for this!". Another scarf wearing, Mac toting musician/writer/sculptor said "getting this coffee stain out of my $200 used corduroys will be a task". A 38 year old skateboarder told us "allying over fallen debris is fun in the middle of the day when others are working". Finally a 98 lb. bed headed DJ rolled out of bed, ran out his loft and said "Did we just have an earthquake? I'm moving to Brooklyn" | ![]() |

You should read this article as it comfirms pretty much what I've been saying all along that...basically anyone who embraces a youthful and edgy urban style, who enjoys going to rock shows and divey-type bars is labeled a hipster these days. These people represent a significant fraction of the under-30 population in this city who enjoy keeping up with the latest in nightlife, music, art, and culture. Hipterism is the new mainstream, and basically anyone with a healthy and active social life is a "hipster". It's irrelevant whether hipsters truly re-invented certain elements of culture and style, or if they're just cultural consumers and social leeches like others would retort. It's simply the new reality.
Judging from their comments, a lot of anti-hipster sentiment evidently comes from "tough guy" non-intellectual homophobic macho types who feel that the more sensitive, intelligent, and culturally aware hipster ideal threatens their insecure sense of masculinity. At some point in their lives they probably got mocked and ridiculed, or even had beer poured all over their heads, by some downtown girl with a tattoo (aka "hipster") after trying to pull some lame move on them. If you think about it, in some ways the entire hipster revolution came about to mock and ridicule such people and their mentalities. It's not about meat and muscle anymore. Anti-hipster sentiment often comes from people who simply can't keep up with social change and are envious of those who can. Remember...you can always rate the amount of insecurity someone has by the amount they rant about hipsters.

This just in, the hipster revolution is over. Nike has stopped making Chuck Taylor Converse basketball shoes. Masculine men have fled in fear. The tattoo industry has collapsed. Details at 11 on on the hipster channel.

I used to think this site was funny. But listing deaths of people is just not funny. I'm starting to agree with Trey. It's starting to change from funny to hate, and when someone hates so much, it makes me wonder why, what is fucked up abt him. Are you cooler b/c you really are low class asshole? Is it bad to be close to one's parents, or smart? I am a hot chick, i guarantee if you saw me, u'd like me. but i prob. wouldn't glance twice at your acid washed jeans, potbelly, Hard rock t shirt wearin self.

You're starting to agree with Trey because you are Trey. If you're not Trey, then advertising that you're HOT on a site you HATE probably means your just another ugly hipster girl who turned to hipsterism because any talentless ugly dirtbag can fit into that crowd.

I'm afraid you're wrong dude. Like I've always said, the intelligent and socially well-adjusted people who come to this site will know that what I'm saying is true and will always be true.

Hey Trey, I read the Adbusters.org article, it pretty much said that hipsters are a bunch of conformist, unoriginal, loser assholes. What is you point?

I should add that if you're going to make fun of a large group of people who you really don't know anything about, you should at least know what you're talking about and not base it on what you read in the "Hipster Handbook". Everybody knows that book is totally outdated, irrelevent, and is just a big joke written by hipsters. This site appeals to nobody but low class meatheads because it lacks class, intelligence, and wit.
For a more intelligent and relevant critique of modern hipsterism, visit http://www.hipsterrunoff.com instead as this site has become nothing more than intelligent people making fun of "native" NYCers for being racist, homophobic, xenophobic, and generally idiotic.
